We’ve found that there’s a lot of variation in laser prices. For treatments from a high-end dermatology practice using the most recent, state-of-the-art PicoSure lasers, you may be seeing $1000 per treatment. At the other end of the spectrum, popup practices using an inexpensive, outdated laser from eBay have been known to offer discounted treatments as low as $60. Tatt2Away® typically falls somewhere in between, but there’s so much more to consider besides dollar amount per treatment. Laser and non-laser tattoo treatment have so many differences that it’s really an apples to oranges comparison. Even so, we’re going to break it down anyway.
For one thing, if you’re strictly looking at price, you should consider that while bargain basement laser prices are cheaper per session, you can expect them to take many more sessions to complete. Using an older laser, it’s not uncommon to require 12-16 treatments or more. PicoSure boasts as few as 6 treatments, but typically at a much higher per-session price. With Tatt2Away, if you’re looking for full removal, you can expect 3-5 sessions for an average-sized tattoo.
Of course, the debate on price hasn’t even touched the question of removal quality, which colors you want removed, the pain of the treatments, the long-term health effects of laser radiation on tattoo pigment, and the advantages Tatt2Away has for preparing a tattoo for a future coverup.
To learn more in-depth about the true value of laser versus non-laser tattoo removal, we’ve interviewed some of our Tatt2Away technicians across the country as well as taken statements from a number of laser treatment practitioners. It’s an excellent breakdown of the issue, and a must-read if you’re shopping between tattoo removal methods.
And if you do decide on laser? Our advice: get the number of treatments and total cost up front, in writing.
