John Hudson, owner of Ink Wizard Tattoo in Clinton, MD, and California, MD, almost became just another laser removal location. Twice. “The first time was back in 2004, but then the economy took a crash so I put the brakes on it,” said Hudson.
Then his daughter, Jessica, began piercing and working the front in the California shop. “My mom and I had been looking to advance the shop and make it more modern,” Jessica said. “I’d told them how people were coming in looking for tattoo removals, because we all make mistakes at some time in life – some of them just happen to be a little more permanent.”
Said Hudson, “I said we’d just get a laser, and she could do tattoo removal. So I started looking into it again.” But his wife stumbled across Tatt2Away® and together with Jessica, they researched the system. “You have to jump through a lot of hoops to do laser in Maryland, and the research showed Tatt2Away to be a lot better than laser anyway,” he said. Jessica liked that it was all-natural. “That drew us. People are looking for more natural ways to do everything,” she said.
Jessica and her mother did exhaustive research into both options, wanting to make sure that whatever they invested in, it would bring more customers in rather than turn them off. Said Jessica, “The laser statistics showed people were stopping after one or two treatments, because it was too painful. We want to try to make sure our customers have the least painful experience possible.”
Tatt2Away will be in the California shop, which sits among military bases. “For the military, you can’t cover them up; you have to remove them,” said Hudson, who’s done some cosmetic tattooing on people so they can get through the first process. He likes the variety Tatt2Away provides. “Some people have an old tattoo they want removed. Or if you don’t like something in it, you can remove that. Or if you have a name, like too many people do, you can take out the name, but leave the tattoo.” Like most tattoo artists, he sees a lot of that. “Kids are getting them on their neck now. How are you going to do a great big cover-up there?” asked Hudson rhetorically. “I just sent one out of here. He put his girlfriend’s name on, big. I thought, yeah, what are you going to cover that with, buddy?”
Marketing plans include social media and buying a specific billboard in a strategic location for a few months. “A lot of people think you have to use lasers to get rid of a mistake. We want to show people there’s another way, and we can do it for them,” said Jessica. “I’m really excited to start this new adventure, and I’m looking forward to it!”
Tatt2Away is a specific patented method with a registered trademark. The patent covers multiple unique elements – one is the template – that contribute to its success. If you visit a location claiming to be a certified Tatt2Away center and they fail to use the template in your procedure, leave (and please let us know).
