Wyld Chyld Tattoo – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“All of the people who have had the process done have been extra happy with it,” said Sarah Miller, tattoo artist and owner of Wyld Chyld Pittsburgh, which has been a certified Tatt2Away® center for one year. One of their Tatt2Away clients is the manager of a local bank. “She had a tattoo on her arm she wanted to get removed, and she didn’t know what to do with it,” said Miller. “It was really dark and old and awful. Now her tattoo is almost gone, and she’s happy. The results are amazing.”

Wyld Chyld’s Tatt2Away technician, Zach Peel, has made a lot of tattoos disappear. “The best ones are always the tattoos they get on impulse,” he said. “We’ve had a couple people come in with their ex’s name or initials on them. Others have stories where it was a bad time in their life and the tattoo reminded them of that. We’d get them in, and get it gone, and they couldn’t be happier.”

Because the shop has been contacted by people as far away as West Virginia and Canada, Peel provides initial information about the process to some inquiries by email, but prefers to see the tattoo in person for a more accurate assessment. “In a picture you don’t know how big the person is. If it’s covering their upper arm and the person is 6’5, it’s going to be a little different than if they’re 5’2,” he said. “Usually before the consult I get the general lay of what they’re looking to have done on the tattoo, such as full or partial removal, and where it is, and then we’ll schedule a consult.”

He uses the consultation for more in-depth information such as educating about the Tatt2Away process, pricing, managing expectations, and number of sessions. “It varies with every person,” he said. “After that comes the paperwork, and then we schedule them for their first session.” He said most everyone who has come in for a consultation has chosen to begin the Tatt2Away process.

Some are hoping that Tatt2Away will be more effective than the laser treatments they’ve had. “I had a consultation with a girl who has scheduled her first Tatt2Away treatment. She had eight laser sessions and the majority of the ink is still there,” said Peel. “It’s a fairly large piece, and some of the colors are gone, but the reds and yellows are as visible as ever.” Miller said she’d seen one lady who had sixteen laser treatments and the tattoo was still there. “She’d spent like $3,000,” Miller said.

Another woman who turned to Tatt2Away was aware of laser, but afraid of it. Said Peel, “It was tattoo party work, very scratcher, on her upper chest, so it was very visible any time she wore anything but a turtleneck.” She told Peel she’d “wanted to get rid of it forever,” but the pain of laser was frightening. “That one was extremely good, because she was extremely self-conscious about it,” he said, adding that because she worked in a professional setting, the tattoo’s location severely limited what she could wear. “It didn’t take very long to get it gone, because it was a lot of line work. She was very thrilled with that.”

Although Miller markets Tatt2Away through flyers and social media, not surprisingly, word of mouth has brought people in asking about the process. “People who have come in and have been happy, have told their friends and their co-workers,” said Peel. “And in the time I’ve been doing this, I’ve been able to tell people first-hand results, because I’ve seen them. It’s not just hearsay or theory.”

Clients have mostly been full removals, although a few underwent Tatt2Away treatments of selective ink removal, specifically to disrupt the pattern for a coverup, or in Tatt2Away talk, a DEScoverup (Disruptive, Escharotic, Selective). The shop artists discuss the option with clients, and Peel says a few of those have scheduled consultations specifically to facilitate a coverup. Miller views it as a case-by-case basis. “The bottom line is the comfort of the client and the success of whatever the client wants to do or get. So if the client would benefit from Tatt2Away, that’s the first thing I recommend.”

One of Peel’s friends has a tattoo he wants to get covered up and a favorite artist at another shop. Said Peel, “His artist said there’s nothing he can do until it gets removed.” Peel told his friend to go back to his artist and ask what part the artist wants Peel to work on. “Does he want the whole thing broken up or just the darker spots removed? Just where does he need the treatment done?” said Peel. “We’re not trying to take any clients; we’re just trying to help the artist out.” Peel said the plan will proceed in the near future. “The artist is cool with it and Sarah’s got a good reputation. She knows a lot of people around town.”

Peel was enthusiastic about Tatt2Away when he was trained, and that hasn’t changed. “Everything I was told about it before I started using it was spot on. Sarah knew some people that had been utilizing it in their shops so I had a positive impression from the beginning, and I still do have a positive impression,” said Peel. “It’s a valuable option and an effective system. It does what it’s supposed to do.”

Miller agrees. “It makes the shop better. It’s a wider array of services we’re able to offer, and it solidifies how the shop is perceived by the public. I’m really happy having it in the shop.”

Tatt2Away is a specific patented method for non-laser, all-natural tattoo removal. The patent and registered trademark cover unique elements – including the template – that contribute to its success.   If you visit a location claiming to be a certified Tatt2Away center and they fail to use the template in your procedure, leave (and please let us know).
