safe tattoo removal for people with sensitive immune systems

If you’ve ever thought about removing a tattoo but worried about what the process might do to your health, you’re not alone. Many people are becoming more cautious about how tattoo inks and removal methods affect the immune system, especially with new research pointing to potential risks within the lymphatic system.

For those who are health-conscious, laser tattoo removal can feel like a risky choice. That’s where Tatt2Away stands apart. By working with your body’s natural healing process, it helps your skin expel the ink rather than forcing your immune system to carry it.

To bring this perspective to life, we sat down with Tara Seymour, a Tatt2Away team member who also happens to be in the middle of her own removal journey. With her background as a health-conscious individual living with Hashimoto’s, Tara shares why she chose Tatt2Away for herself and why she believes it’s the safer option for anyone concerned about their health:

Tattoo Removal Through the Lens of Health and Healing: Tara’s Story

Tara has been employed at Tatt2Away for a few years now, but even before she started working for the company, she was interested in Tatt2Away’s non-laser tattoo removal method. Tara, who owned multiple tattoo studios at the time, had been looking for removal options for herself and her clients. She had some pre-existing health concerns that helped influence her decision to remove her own tattoo with Tatt2Away, and in the process found that Tatt2Away best fit the needs of her clientele too. In her own words, here is what Tara thinks about tattoo removal as someone living with an autoimmune disease:

“I’ve lived with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that affects my thyroid, for years. It means my immune system is already compromised; it attacks healthy cells, I heal slowly, and my skin is very sensitive. Because of that, I’ve always been careful about the choices I make for my health.

When I first thought about tattoo removal, I researched laser. But the more I learned, the more I knew it wasn’t right for me. Laser breaks tattoo ink into tiny particles that your immune system has to absorb and carry through your lymphatic system. This process relies heavily on immune function and can place extra strain on the body, which I did not want, especially since tattoo inks aren’t regulated. Tattoo ink often contains heavy metals and foreign or toxic particles, and I didn’t want those unknown substances sitting in my lymphatic system, especially knowing my immune system already struggles. I don’t have lymphoma, but that was also part of my consideration for not going with laser tattoo removal too. Since inks are unregulated, sometimes the ink will glow in your lymphatic system and show signs of cancer. So with laser tattoo removal, the toxic particles aren’t leaving the body all the way, and I just didn’t want those unknown particles to go throughout my body. Even for someone without Hashimoto’s or lymphoma, that just didn’t feel like a safe option.

Tatt2Away made sense for me because it works differently. Instead of breaking the ink down inside your body, it gives your skin a way to push the ink out naturally through the surface. I love that it’s leaving my body, not being trapped in it. I didn’t want those toxic ink particles sitting in my body for an undetermined amount of time. And now, with Tatt2Away, every scab I see is proof my skin is healing and expelling the ink the way nature intended.

Even with my slower healing process, I’ve been thrilled with the results. I can literally see the color and ink come out after each session. The Tatt2Away team was upfront with me about the process and set clear expectations, and that’s exactly what I’ve experienced.

As someone who is health conscious, my advice to anyone wanting to remove their tattoo is to do your research. Look beyond the marketing claims and ask what’s really happening in your body with each method. For me, the better choice was Tatt2Away, since it doesn’t put any extra strain on my immune system, and it doesn’t leave me carrying toxins. It simply, actually removes the tattoo.

And just to be clear, I don’t hate tattoos! In fact, I plan on getting a cover up tattoo over part of the tattoo that I’m removing, but before I do that, I’m going to find an artist that I trust uses quality, non-toxic tattoo ink. For me, being aware of healthy, safe options for my body is what’s important, both in getting and removing tattoos.

For anyone who is worried about their health, whether you have an autoimmune condition, are mindful of your lymphatic system, or just want to avoid unnecessary risks, Tatt2Away is the option I trust and I use for myself. It’s not just tattoo removal, it’s untattooing, in the most natural way possible.”
